The Old Stone House & Washington Park is a historic site and park conservancy dedicated to preserving local and national history while maintaining a vibrant public space. Acting as the conservancy for Washington Park and the JJ Byrne Playground, the organization cares for the neighborhood's parks, playgrounds, and gardens. Housed in a reconstruction of the 1699 Vechte-Cortelyou House—situated on the border of Park Slope and Gowanus—the site commemorates the 1776 Battle of Brooklyn and the birthplace of the Brooklyn Dodgers. As a member of the Historic House Trust of New York City listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it serves the modern community through family programs, arts and cultural events, and neighborhood advocacy.
